Lady Cards, Cards both win Saturday

The seventh-ranked Lady Cardinals overcame a slow start to get back in the win column Saturday afternoon at Cardinal Gym.
The score was tied at 4-4 in the opening two minutes. By the time halftime arrived the Lady Cardinals were up 40-28 over Coastal Bend and on their way to a comfortable 85-53 triumph.
The win improved the Lady Cardinals to 12-4 overall and 2-2 in Region XIV Conference. Coastal Bend saw its records slip to 4-11 and 0-2.
Next up for the Lady Cardinals is a trip on Wednesday to Carthage to face Panola in a 5:30 p.m. The Lady Cardinals have an open date Saturday.
Lydie Mwamba capped a red-hot week with a 29-point performance, which followed on the heels of the 36 she put up Wednesday in an 82-78 loss to Angelina. She had four three-pointers and grabbed 14 rebounds.
Mwamba was joined in double-digit scoring by April Edwards with 19, Kennedi Johnson with 12 and Kynnedi Davis and Haylee Malcum with 10 each.
The Lady Cardinals committed nine turnovers. Coastal Bend had 22.
Cardinals beat Tyler
The fifth-ranked Cardinals came alive in the closing minutes Saturday afternoon at Wagstaff Gymnasium to pull out a 67-56 win against Tyler.
Tyler led throughout the game. The Cardinals got hot as the final buzzer neared, riding the three-point shooting of Ahamad Bynum, who finished with 25 points. Bynum had 23 points, including five three-pointers.
Mahki Dorsey tossed in 12 points for the Cardinals. Devyn Franklin had eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Tyler led 33-27 at halftime.
The win improved the Cardinals to 16-3 on the season and 7-1 in Region XIV Conference. Tyler dropped to 13-5 and 5-3 marks.
The Cardinals have Wednesday off and are scheduled to return to action at home Saturday against Navarro in a 4 p.m. tipoff.
