Malakoff to face Gladewater Friday
The Malakoff Tigers are set to face Gladewater in a Regional semifinal Friday in Waco. This isn't just any playoff game, this is a rematch of the 2018 State Championship game. It is also a rematch from early this year when Gladewater beat Malakoff, 31-24, in overtime.
There's nobody who knows Malakoff football like Benny Rogers, so I highly suggest fans read his column/post about the game here.

City of Athens gets Cain Center Update
(From a City of Athens post)
The Cain Center project is going well.
That was the message from Eric Berry of Berry and Clay at Monday night's City Council meeting. Berry said the project was close to half done.
Much of the work completed so far has been structural. A new roof has been put on, new duct work added, electrical and plumbing has been installed, a new fire alarm system put in, and pool equipment such as pumps and valves have been installed.
"There's still a ton of work to do, but a lot of the hard parts are done," Berry said.
The update was well received by the council.
"With a project that complex, with that many unknowns, I am extremely pleased to be where we are now with no major changes or added expenses to the City," said Mayor Monte Montgomery, "and I think the council is also."
Work began on the Cain Center rehabilitation project in May 2020. The project will cost about $7.5 million with $2.5 million donated by the Murchison Foundation and $2.5 million donated by the Cain Foundation. The project is expected to be complete by the summer of 2021.
